Spotlight: Matt Puzan

We are very proud of our teachers here at Meridian Music and Arts. In an effort to share the talent that our teachers posses with the public we do a monthly spotlight. This month we are spotlighting Dr. Matt puzan. Matt has been teaching at the Meridian Music and Arts facility for the last year. We have all known for much longer than that, however, as he has been teaching in the valley for a long time. Matt Puzan is a great and patient teacher. What ages do you teach?

I like to start students who are at least 6 years old. But, of course, you’re never too OLD to start.

What instruments do you teach?

Guitar (All styles), Bass, Voice, Drums, Piano, Trumpet, Songwriting & Theory.

Do you have a teaching motto?

You will never regret giving your best effort.

How many years have you been teaching?

32 years.

Who or what inspired you to become a music teacher?

All of my early teachers were very formative for me but it has always been my students and their desire to learn and grow that has fueled my passion to be the best teacher I can be.

Describe your best moment ever teaching music:

Great moments, for me, are made everyday as I watch my students learning and progressing with their instruments forging a lifelong appreciation and relationship with the incredible gift that is found in making music.

If you could have one teaching super power, what would it be?

I most value the power of Inspiration.

Describe what it is like to be in lessons with you:

I strive to create a learning environment that is comfortable, fun, and focused on progress

Tell us some fun facts about yourself that we may not know:

I spent my youth playing Bluegrass music and later studied Classical and Jazz Guitar in College. But, my teens and twenties were spent playing in a variety of Punk and Hair Metal Bands in the 80s and early 90s.
